    You never know what you'll find when you cut into a log, especially with Texas Mesquite.  This one was a fun surprise.  As we were cutting 1" slabs off of it, it gave us a great look at the small branch that cuts through the trunk.  We sliced through it at least 6 different times, from near-pith all the way to the bark.  In several of them, it formed a nearly perfect human eye (boards M-1019 and M-1020).  I think it's fascinating to see how the branch itself eroded away, leaving its bark in place.  The "eyebrow" appears...

We're an old company, but our web site is brand new.  This year we're celebrating our 22nd year of our family business, providing unique Texas woods to customers all over the world.   In addition to the new site, we're expanding our family business to a new generation.  Lloyd Stahl, who has spent the last 20+ years sawing and turning, is handing the operations over to his kids and grandkids.  Our new generation is busy at work with the chainsaw, at the sawmill, and in the woodshop.  Leslie Neal, Lloyd's daughter, is taking on most of the work (and fun!) -- and is joined...
