We carry limited quantities of Texas Oak species. The type of oak is identified in the listing title. The pieces below are primarily Live Oak and Water Oak, the most common of the Oaks in this part of Texas. From time to time, I will have local varieties of the Red and White oak species available.
We offer Texas Oak wood ranging from small rectangular blocks to larger and irregular bowl blanks. Most of the smaller blocks are entirely heartwood with only a small percentage of sapwood and little if any bark. We occasionally have larger blocks in stock, such as half-log and natural-edge bowl turning blanks.
In general, our oak lumber has strong grain patterns, often with heavy radial curves. The oak "rays" in these pieces are frequently beautiful. The Live Oak in particular frequently contains areas of a unique, very "wavy" and tightly contorted grain pattern.
Please note - I do not have a large kiln and so all of these Oak pieces (except for the pen blanks) are green to partially air-dried. They are not kiln-dried and should be treated as green wood for purposes of turning.
