Alder

Alder is a member of the Birch family. Alder has an even grain that cuts and turns smoothly and finishes easily. It has surprisingly low density for a hardwood.

Alder is light-colored when freshly cut and deepens into warm tones of red, peach, and yellow as it dries. Alder is a very nice wood for flatwork, turning, carving, pyrography, and laser burning.

Spalted Alder is a very beautiful wood that is surprisingly light-weight once spalted. We recommend Spalted Alder for our experienced turners and suggest using CA glue during the turning process. Spray-on CA works very well for this purpose.
