White Ash Block WA-187
2.5" x 2.5" x 6.5"
This is a very nice, lightly spalted 2-1/2 inch square end-grain block of Texas White Ash. The color is an overall light to slightly pinkish brown. The grain pattern is strong and linear to gently curving with a slight hint of chatoyance. There are three small, black-stained bug holes but they are confined to the edges and should turn off as the block is rounded.
The spalting in this block consists of a light pattern of pencil-line spalting on the annotated face, one edge and the exposed end-grain face of the top photo. It is shallow and, unfortunately, much of it will turn off as the block is rounded. There is one crack (with a depth test drill hole) at the bottom of the block -- if you cut this off, you would have a block that is 6" long.
