|White Ash Block WA-133
6" x 6" x 3"
This is a very nice block of Texas White Ash. The colors are a beautiful combination of light and dark browns (with a slight pinkish shade). The grain is tight and smoothly flowing.
This block appears to be sound with no significant structural weakness. It was cut from very close to the pith of the log and the tail end of a small pith-related radial crack is present (right edge, annotated face, upper photo). That crack is short and very shallow (<1/4") at the end-grain face. There are two tiny, black-stained borer holes on the annotated face, one of which is open, the other is naturally infilled. I see no other flaws.
