UFO Peach Bowl Blank Ph-429
5" x 9" x 9.5"
This is a sizeable crotch bowl blank of Texas-grown UFO Peach wood. It has gorgeous grain and hints of spalting. The color is a warm brown that is rather, well, peachy! There is a bark inclusion right at the crotch that will be interesting and challenging to turn. The off-shoot branch on the back side of the blank is complex and might be burly -- it has that swelling character that often is associated with burls. If not burly, it will still be some very pretty grain.
There is some spalting and bug-assisted decay, but the wood has plenty of integrity. You may want to touch up with CA glue as you go. This wood was from a tree grown in Katy, Texas. It died during the Valentine's Day freeze of 2021. We cut and sealed it with Anchor Seal shortly after it died, then let it rest and spalt for about a year before processing it. We have very limited quantities of this unusual-to-Texas wood.
This is a GREEN to partially air-dried bowl blank, meaning that it still retains a lot of its original moisture from when it was a living tree. It has been well-sealed on all surfaces with Anchor Seal and is in the process of slowly drying. It has been heat-treated to eliminate any gnawing critters. It was measured at ~25% MC in May 2022. If you need a current moisture content, please message us and we'll check its status for you.
Please scroll through the photos to see all of them, if you wish -- there are more than the 3 that first display on the page. This block does have a few cracks developing. You'll probably want to CA glue these prior to turning.
