Texas Ebony Block TE-744
1.2" x 1.2" x 8"
This attractive Texas Ebony block is 95% heartwood with a stripe of sapwood along one edge. The grain pattern is fairly linear throughout the block, with swirls near branch buds. The heartwood has pretty variations in color, as it was cut from near the heartwood/sapwood interface.
The block has several cracks and a weak patch that you'll want to reinforce. I recommend filling with CA glue prior to working with the block. Black CA glue is especially attractive with Texas Ebony and is our go-to color. The sapwood is much weaker than the heartwood; you may choose to turn it off. If preserving it, thin clear CA glue should suffice.
I've taken lots of photos of this piece; please scroll down below the first 3 to see all of them.
