This is a nice little "odd lot" piece of Texas Ebony, with some good heartwood ready for use in a small project.  Perhaps several wine bottle stops, duck calls, or Christmas ornaments?

I estimate it to be 70% the dark brown color of Texas Ebony heartwood and 30% the of beige sapwood.  As you can see in the photos, it is cut at about a 60 degree angle, with the base portion being about 3" long and the angled portion a bit over 4" long.  This is an imperfect piece in that it has several cracks (see photos for close-up) that you may wish to stabilize if turning.  I believe they are mostly superficial and shallow, but it is possible they penetrate further than they appear.  CA glue should be adequate if they penetrate deeper than expected.
