Texas Ebony Block TE-541 3.5" x 4" x 11.6" 6.5 lbs. This is a gorgeous end-grain block of Texas Ebony that captures the contrast between heartwood and sapwood. It intersects with the the surface of the log, such that the block is a long rectangle that is gently rounded on the bark face, with a curving wane. There's a thin edge of bark. I'd estimate of the wood that is present, the wood volume is approximately 70% dark brown heartwood and 30% cream sapwood. The grain pattern is linear to gently-curving. There are several small end-checks within the sapwood, and one minor end-check in the heartwood. They can be stabilized with CA glue if you wish. See photos for close-ups; there are more than 3 photos, so please scroll down. I see no other cracks or structural flaws. |
