Texas Ebony Block TE-523
1.5" x 1.5" x 8.4"
This is a beautiful rift-sawn block of Texas Ebony. It is 25/75 split between dark chocolate-brown heartwood in one quadrant, and the remainder a creamy-yellow sapwood. The grain pattern is strong, linear to moderately complex throughout. The sapwood has some interesting shade variations in warm tan tones (second photo).
The block has several character marks: a worm-vug along one edge, some minor corner wane on the back face (second photo), and a branch bud on the front face (third photo). These can all turn off with the lathe as you spin to round. I see no significant flaws.
