Texas Ebony Block TE-162 1" x 1" x 12.5" 0.6 lbs. This is a beauty of a piece of Texas Ebony. I estimate it to be 70% the dark brown color of Texas Ebony heartwood and 30% the of beige sapwood. The transition between tones happens right down the center of the block, and the transition itself has some beautiful banding. The sapwood has a curvy grain to it. This will make a very attractive turning or carving. There’s a bit of minor sapwood checking on the southern end. There’s a small bark inclusion at mid-section (see third photo). This may be an interesting feature to expose further with turning. I see no significant cracks or flaws in the block. |
