Pecan Block P-448 2.8" x 2.8" x 8.2" 1.6 lbs. This is a beautiful end-grain block of lightly spalted Texas native Pecan wood. It is basically a soft tan to pinkish-tinted light brown color with subtle darker-brown streaks of spalt coloration. There are a few lines of black pencil-line spalting. The wood grain has a pleasant and gracefully flowing pattern with a degree of chatoyance. This block has been air-dried to 8-10% moisture content. Density of this piece is 43 lb/ft3, which is slightly less than the density of unspalted Pecan, 47 lb/ft3. I see no significant cracks, but there are several very thin drying checks present that might be too thin to see on the photos. I would reinforce these with thin CA glue before turning. There are several small open bugholes of 1/8" diameter and one larger frass-filled bughole near the annotation. |
