Pecan Block P-445
2.8" x 2.8" x 12"
This is a beautiful end-grain block of lightly spalted Texas native Pecan wood. It is basically a soft tan to pinkish-tinted light brown color with subtle darker-brown streaks of spalt coloration. There are a few lines of black pencil-line spalting. The wood grain has a pleasant and gracefully flowing pattern.
This block has been air-dried to 8-10% moisture content. Density of this piece is 42 lb/ft3, slightly less than the density of unspalted Pecan. To achieve this beautiful degree of spalting, the wood does give up a little bit of density and strength. Turning this block to achieve a good finish without tearout will require sharp tools and a light touch.
I see no cracks or checks in this block. There are several small open and/or frass-filled bugholes of 1/8" to 1/4" diameter.
