Mesquite Block M-715
3"x 3"x 10-3/4"
2.2 lbs.
This is a beautiful but uniquely different (and challenging?) end-grain block of burly Texas Honey Mesquite. Years ago it was a combination of burly Mesquite heartwood, sapwood and bark that was also likely very attractive - but in the later years, the sapwood decayed and most of it, as well as the bark, had fallen off. But the beautiful, burly, reddish-brown and still very solid heartwood core remains along with a portion of still-sound, tan-colored sapwood and four gappy black patches of included bark. The grain pattern varies from gently swirling to highly complex within and around a number of small and large Mesquite burl buds. This block would make a very unique lamp base or some other nice "character" piece.
I see no cracks, checks or other significant flaws.
