This is a eye-catching block of Texas-grown Mesquite. The color is the rich, reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood with some creamy beige sapwood and dark-chocolate bark. The grain is gently curving through the block.

This block has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. 

I see no cracks in this piece. The sapwood has some bug bites (tiny tunnels). The bark has some air-gaps, and there's one bark-lined indentation that I've taken a close-up photo of.  Depth on that is approximately 1/4" and length is 1.5".
