This is a eye-catching end-grain block of Texas-grown Mesquite. The color is the rich, reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood with some creamy beige sapwood and dark-chocolate bark. The grain is wavy and curls attractively around a knot at mid-block.

This block has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. 

I see no cracks, checks, or flaws. The sapwood has some bug bites (tiny tunnels).  The bark has some air-gaps.  It's tight but you will want to reinforce with CA glue if planning to keep it.  One end has surface scuffs from the sawblade that will sand off -- they are not cracks, despite potentially looking like that in the photos.
