This is a nice end-grain block of Texas Honey Mesquite. It is the strong reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood. The grain is quite linear with small areas of gentle undulation and several small burl buds that create gentle bends in the otherwise-straight grain.
There is a very tiny corner flaw on the back (top of second photo), where a shallow flake broke off along the grain. I see no other cracks or other flaws in this block.
