This is another nice small, rift-sawn Mesquite board. The color is the reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood, with a strong, gently undulating grain pattern. This block includes two interesting and eye-catching linear pockets of "included bark" (both photos.
I see no cracks, checks or other flaws. Those light gray-black patches on the back side are just surface smudges from my less-than-clean jointer table!
