Mesquite Block M-1109
1.9" x 2" x 4.3"
This is a beautiful end-grain block of Texas-grown Honey Mesquite. The color is the rich, reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood. It is moderately burly and has eye-catching chatoyance.
This block has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. The grain appears to be curving and complex at one end then becomes more linear towar the other end.
There is an open void in the block that appear to be a during-growth opening, rather than drying cracks. You may wish to use epoxy or CA glue to fill this prior to turning. This is an awesome block, probably best for very sharp tools and an experienced hand.
