This is a beautiful block of Mesquite with a gentle grain running through it. There is moderate figuring on the front and back face. It is entirely the rich, reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood.
It's a solid piece throughout, with exception of one top corner (second photo) that has a bit of frass. This will round off with turning. I see no significant cracks or checks in this block.
