Mesquite Block M-1092
2.3" x 2.4" x 5.4"
This is a small end-grain block of Texas-grown Honey Mesquite. The color is the rich, reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood. There is a beautiful bit of chatoyance visible on several faces.
This block has been fully air-dried to 10-12% moisture content.
The grain is strong and linear to gently curving with a small burl bud cluster on the left face, the face to the left from the annotation. There is also an old crack present in this block. It is an "while the tree was alive" sort of crack, perhaps from wind stress. It has the dark patina of age along it. For turning, you will want to reinforce this crack with CA glue prior to turning.
