Mesquite Block M-1072
3.7" x 3.8" x 5.8"
This is an endgrain block of Mesquite that includes heartwood, sapwood, and a bit of bark. The grain is pretty, with plentiful burl buds and a bit of chatoyance even through the dusty surface.
This block has been air dried to 10-12% moisture content. Density of this piece is 55 lbs/ft3. There are several sets of fine cracks in this piece. One set is associated with a penetrative branch (radial fractures coming from the branch pith), and the other set of cracks are ring cracks. You will need to fill these with epoxy or CA glue to stabilize prior to turning. Black epoxy is especially attractive with mesquite.
I've taken lots of photos of this piece; please scroll down below the first 3 to see all of them.
