This is a nice end-grain block of Texas Huisache. It is approximately 90% bright rosy/reddish-brown heartwood and 10% sapwood on two edges and the adjacent sides (bottom photo). That sapwood was a light yellowish-brown color when I milled it but has since developed a strong gray shading on the surface. Most, if not all, of that sapwood should turn off as the block is turned to round.
Despite being Cut from close to the pith of the log, I see no pith-related cracks or other significant flaws.
