Mesquite Bowl Blank M-1027
3" x 10" x 10"
This is a beautiful half-log bowl blank cut from a fairly linear-grained section of Texas Honey Mesquite. Due to thinning toward one corner, it is likely to yield a bowl of no more than 3" deep at its minimum depth; the maximum thickness of the blank is about 5". There is a 90% complete dark brown bark on the backside, held tightly to the core.
The colors include the rich reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood, the bright golden yellow of our Mesquite sapwood and the dark brown-black of Mesquite bark. There is one minor crack system associated with the pith (see photo 3); you may wish to stabilize prior to turning. I see no other cracks, checks, or significant flaws.
