Large, irregular block of Texas Black Walnut sapwood, so it has the warm yellow-brown tones of Walnut sapwood.  Block is of varying dimension -- please look at photos.  This is not a square block -- rather, it tapers down the length (one edge is wane, where it reaches near the bark).   

Pretty consistent color and grain fabric throughout the block.  No cracks, checks, or flaws that I can see.
