Bodark B-565
2-5/8" x 2-3/4" x 7"
~2 lb.

This is a nice end-grain block of lightly spalted Texas Bodark. Among other uses, I see it as good for the head of a small to medium size mallet. The colors are the golden brown of mature Bodark with intra-grain bands of reddish brown spalting.

Two small and shallow, black-stained cracks are present on one corner of the block (top photo). These are the very tail-ends of very old radial cracks that were located outside the limits of this block. They are minor and will turn off quickly when the block is shaped to a more-rounded form. There is also a single, very small knot (the central pith of an old "twig") on one side (bottom photo, left side). A short, very shallow and tight drying check extends from that pith to the nearby end of the block (too small and tight to be visible on that photo). That too would be turned off quickly if the block is shaped to a more-rounded form. I see no other flaws.
