This is a pretty block of slightly spalted Black Walnut.   It's about 90% heartwood, and the heartwood has the attractive patterns of slightly spalted Walnut. 

The grain pattern is long and straight.  This is a nice, solid block of Texas-grown Black Walnut.  It's been dried to 10-12% moisture content. 

I've taken multiple photos of this block, so please scroll down below the first three to see all the photos.  There is one minor end check that you might want to CA glue if turning; it appears to die out after a 1/2" or so.
