Batch of Pecan 2 Spalted Blocks 2.9 lbs. This is a matched pair of lightly spalted Texas native Pecan wood. It is basically a soft tan to pinkish-tinted light brown color with subtle darker-brown streaks of spalt coloration. There are a few lines of black pencil-line spalting. The wood grain has a pleasant and gracefully flowing pattern with a degree of chatoyance. As you can see, both pieces have wane where the block intersects the tree face. There is no bark present. The full-width faces of the blocks measure 2.8 inches by 2.8 inches. The lengths are 10.5" and 10.7". These would be beautiful for a matched pair of turnings, such as pepper mills or tool handles. This block has been air-dried to 8-10% moisture content. I see no cracks or checks in this block. There are several small open and/or frass-filled bugholes of 1/8" to 1/4" diameter. I see no cracks, checks, or flaws in these pieces. |
