Texas Ebony Block TE-522
1.5" x 1.5" x 8.4"
This is a beautiful rift-sawn block of Texas Ebony. It is 75%/25% split between dark chocolate-brown heartwood and creamy-yellow sapwood. The grain pattern is strong, linear to moderately complex throughout. The heartwood has several clusters of burl buds that give it grain complexity. The knot on the front face (first photo) does have some radiating cracks; you may wish to stabilize with CA glue.
There is also a minor worm-vug along one edge (third photo). This will turn off with the lathe as you spin to round. I see no significant flaws.
