Texas Ebony Block TE-154 1.5" x 1.5" x 10.8" 1.2 lbs. This is an attractive end-grain block of Texas Ebony. It is approximately ~80% dark brown to reddish brown heartwood and ~20% sapwood. That sapwood is a creamy-yellow color but includes numerous angular to linear patches of light grey spalting (second photo). The wood tone is a warm brown with sweeping, highly visible grain patterns. There are several burl buds and nucleation points that cause the grain to swirl.
The block has a few minor cracks in the sapwood that originate at the sapwood / heartwood interface (as is characteristic of Texas Ebony), as shown in the third photo. They will turn off as you bring the block to round.
