Texas Ebony Block TE-070
1.5" x 1.5" x 8.5"
This is a very attractive rift-sawn block of Texas Ebony. It is 50/50 split between dark chocolate-brown heartwood and creamy-yellow sapwood. Interestingly, the colors meet in the middle of the block along the diagonal, in what will certainly turn into a remarkable turning. Perhaps a magic wand?
The grain pattern is strong, linear to moderately complex throughout. There are several burl buds that add local swirls to the grain pattern.
On the back face, there is a minor bark-related crack (third photo). If turning, this will readily turn off. Alternately, one can stabilize with CA glue. I see no other cracks, checks or significant flaws.
