Bodark Block B759
2.4" x 2.4" x 10.7"
This is a nice end-grain block of Texas Bodark. It has the golden-brown of aged Bodark heartwood. There is a 1/4" thin wedge of pale yellow to almost white colored sapwood on one edge of the block. There's a bit of bark on that same edge.
I see no cracks, checks, or flaws in this block. It has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content.
About the Tree
This beautiful Bodark tree grew large and tall on the Katy Prairie in Brookshire, Texas. It spent it's 150+ years on the grounds of what became the Brookwood Community, a non-profit community for adults with disabilities (www.brookwoodcommunity.org). The tree died at some point over the last few years, and they had to cut it down. They were kind enough to let us rescue it to give it continued life as lumber rather than let it turn into waste in a landfill or burn pile. And now it is yours, to turn into a beautiful piece of woodcraft.
We would love to see what comes of this lumber. Please send us a photograph of your finished work, if you would be so kind. We would like to be able to share the photographs back with the Brookwood Community and its residents.
