Mesquite Bowl Blank M-1054
3.7" x 9" x 9"
This is a fairly large half-log bowl blank from a crotch of Texas Honey Mesquite, which should yield a bowl of about 9" diameter. The colors include the rich reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood, the golden to grayish yellow of Mesquite sapwood, and the dark brown of Mesquite bark.
This bowl blank has beautiful figuring around the crotch. This one is unusual in that there is sub-branch emerging in the crotch as well as some void space with full-bark inclusion at the crotch. It's hard to describe, so see the close-up photos! There are more than 3 photos, so scroll down.
It has full bark on the back and could be turned for either a conventional bowl or a "barky" natural-edge bowl.
There are several cracks present in this bowl blank. You will likely need to stabilize these prior to or during turning. We've discounted this block 50% because of the cracks. See close-up photos of the block (scroll down below the first 3 photos).
