This is a 2" end-grain spindle of aged and spalted Texas Bodark.  It has the deep golden-orange of aged Bodark heartwood with the darker hues of spalting.  Once you work with this block, the freshly exposed surfaces will deepen in color with light and air exposure.

This block has a shallow crack running just beneath one face. I recommend securing it with CA glue prior to turning, which stabilizes the crack and gives you full use of the block.

This block has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content.  We have a number of these, so the photos are representative of them all but may not match the exact spindle you receive.
