This is a discounted block of Texas Red Oak.  It's an attractive piece of wood, but it has more warping and check marks from air-drying than we normally like to see.  Other than being a bit mis-shapen from air drying too quickly, this block is quite solid.  One edge has a chip missing down its length, as you can see in photo 3.
