This is a very nice end-grain block of burly and moderately-figured Texas Honey Mesquite.  It is approximately 90% reddish-brown heartwood and 10% golden-yellow sapwood.  At the southern end, it's got some sapwood and bark.  In the mid-section, several burl buds create intriguing patterns.  

Other than the roughness and complexity associated with the bark, I see no cracks, checks, or flaws with this block.
