Mesquite Block M-1042
3.1" x 5.7" x (4 to 5.5)"
This Texas Mesquite block will produce a beautiful 4" to 5" diameter bowl, with a depth of about 3". The color is the deep reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood, with a thin rim of sapwood along one face. The heartwood grain is mostly linear to gently curving.
The block is slightly irregularly shaped, with the top (annotated) surface being at an angle. That top surface is 4.2" along one face and 5.5" along the other face.
There are several during-growth cracks present, from when the tree was stressed and cracked by wind while growing. These have spalted nicely and may need some stabilizing while turning. See photos for close-up.
