This Texas Honey Mesquite block is the rich, reddish-brown of Mesquite heartwood, with less than 20% of the block being the lighter sapwood. The grain is strong and fairly linear along the length of the block.
There is a tapered wedge of bark along the front face’s left edge, with some missing material along the left edge where the block intersected the outer part of the log. All of the bark and sapwood portion will likely turn off as the block is rounded.
I see no cracks, checks or other structural flaws.
