Sweet Gum Block SG-419
1.1" x 1.1" x 10.7"
This is a pretty spindle of Texas-grown Sweet Gum. The colors are warm brown with peachy overtones. The grain is swirling and very attractive. There's a suggestion of quilting and chatoyance that I think will come out even more with turning and finishing.
This piece has been air-dried to 10-12% moisture content. Please scroll through the photos to see all of them, if you wish -- there are more than the 3 that first display on the page.
This block has a crack or two in it that you will need to secure with CA glue or epoxy prior to turning. We've discounted the block because of the cracking. This spindle also has a good bit of bark in it that will be good-looking in the finished turning but will need to be secured with CA glue. We prefer to use thin, clear CA on bark ourselves to make sure it stays sound and in-place while turning.
