Huisache

Texas Huisache wood has a beautiful grain and orange-red color in the heartwood and a creamy yellow color in the sapwood. It turns easily when green, producing long curls of a fascinating sparkly orange-white color. The bark is very tight and clings well to a natural edge vessel. The wood also finishes to a beautiful surface.

Huisache has a warm tone and a tight grain that is quite similar to Mesquite, though the colors are slightly lighter when compared to Mesquite.  Huisache goes by the formal name of Acacia farnesiana (sweet Acacia).  Here in Texas, we pronounce Huisache as "wee-satch".  It grows as a flowering shrub on our river bottomlands.
