About the Wood Crafters
Lloyd Stahl
Lloyd works out of his woodshop in Katy, Texas. As you can see from the site, he gets a kick out of creating whimsical yard ornaments -- especially homes for garden gnomes. When he's not busy with woodcraft, Lloyd works as a consulting marine geologist with the oil industry and manages a small herd of commercial cattle.
Lloyd began woodworking a long time ago (Jurassic age or thereabouts, according to the kids). He created much of the furniture in the house, as a hobby when the kids were younger. Lloyd's shop is well-equipped with a mixture of those Jurassic-aged power tools and a few new additions. His older (and perhaps the best for it) pieces of equipment include a 30-year-old Craftsman radial arm saw, a very old (antique, at pre-1950?) Shopsmith combo lathe and drill press, and another very old (antique?) Sears Roebuck jig saw (or scroll saw as they now seem to be called). His newest shop additions are a Jet Bandsaw and a dust-handling system to protect his lungs (after 30 years without -- better late than never!).
Leslie Neal
Leslie is Lloyd's daughter, the younger of 2 girls. She works out of the small woodshop in Bryan, Texas, that she shares with her husband and 2 wee ones. Leslie is an Aggie graduate with a master's in geology, but she's enjoying spending a few years at home with the kids. The entire family loves to spend time in the garage, where the kids can play with their toys and the parents can play with power tools. Great fun!
The family shop is equipped with the basic tools, nothing fancy and usually one tool short of whatever the project requires. Thanks to Lowe's and some fantastic buys on eBay, though, the shop is starting to come together. When Leslie isn't working on her wooden baskets, she and her husband like to create new toys for the kids. Their current project is designing the perfect rocking horse. If they ever figure it out, you'll be sure to see it here!
We both enjoy creating our Texas wood products. We hope that you'll get as much pleasure out of
